Reflecting on our AI journey so far

The evolution of artificial intelligence

An AI robot holding planet Earth

We’ve been on this journey together for more than 4 weeks now. Many of you have been good enough to give us really useful feedback: thank you to those who have. For those who haven’t we thought we’d give you the opportunity to let us know what you think. Please use the button below.

Over the last four weeks, we've explored the riveting world of AI, delved into machine learning, swum in the deep layers of deep learning, and conversed with natural language processing. So we thought that in this week’s newsletter, we’d recap our journey together so far.

The Birth of AI

AI's roots trace back to the 1950s and brilliant minds like Alan Turing. His Turing Test laid the groundwork for machines mimicking human intelligence. Imagine a time when computers were room-sized, yet the seeds of today's AI were being sown.

Evolution of machine learning to deep learning

Machine learning began like a toddler learning to identify shapes (have a look at this BBC Studios video about the Chinese Room Experiment to get the idea), and then it blossomed into deep learning, akin to a wise elder.

Today, it aids everything from medicine to finance. Deep learning, inspired by our brain's structure, emerged as layers of artificial neurons solving complex problems. It's like a master detective, untangling mysteries.

Natural language processing in historical context

From early chatbots to models writing poetry, NLP has blossomed. Imagine starting with basic vocabulary and growing into a master of languages!

Modern-day applications

The tapestry of AI has woven into our lives. It's in our phones, cars, and shopping. Just like electricity revolutionised the past, AI lights up our world. Take a look into our modern world of AI.

Looking ahead

Our journey through AI's history has been like touring a living museum. And this journey is far from over. In the coming weeks, we'll explore even more, further demystifying AI's complexities.

Once again, please take the time to give us feedback about our newsletter if you’ve not already. We promise to read every form submitted, and we’ll react to the points you raise too.

Until next week…
